What is Consciousness - Vethathiri

Great concept conveyed by Vethathiri - it reached me via his close disciple. what is the meaning of consciousness. people keep referring to universal consciousness but I could never fully understand the term consciousness. Here is the guru's explanation. Order and Intelligence in every thing - living and non-living - is called as consciousness. Stunningly revealing examples are

1. african elephants in the desert that walk hundreds of miles to trace and find salt in caves to quest their thirst.

2. birds and animals that migrate thousands of miles and return back to same origin after winter ends without any map etc.

3. all inanimate things created by man that serve their purpose for certain period of time - computers, tv, car, remote, air planes - these are extra-ordinarily intelligent systems which keep functioning for years provided you give right commands.

4. natural resources - trees, flowers, fossil fuels, minerals, precious metals - the order and intelligence in these are just astounding - that is consciousness that Vethathiri was talking about.

Now I get the picture. This is possibly the most clear explanation I have come across about consciousness.
